Character study of my good friend Caroline.
“I’d say I’m a masc-identifying lesbian.”
Examining how projected identity shifts in differing settings and contexts; sometimes as armour, sometimes as invitation, and always as performance.
Caroline was an artistic collaborator in the process — co-directing the shoots and selecting from contact sheets which photos would be printed.
“I was suprised to find myself drawn to the more feme, softer images.”
Locations include Caroline’s bedroom, on her college campus, and a fundraising gala in NYC.
Questions of the relationship between photographer and photographed, male gaze, self-perception, and identity performance require further study.
“It’s the first time I’ve worn a dress in 10 years.”
